  • Year 6 make hardball county finals

Tue 04 Jul 2017 Mr Ford
St Josephs year 6 cricket team have made history by making the hardball surrey finals in their 1st time competing in the event. The team made up of 6 year 6 children and 1 child from year 5 only started playing hardball this year. After having a successful quick cricket campaign last year Mr Ford recognised the potential for the team with a bit of practice to compete at hardball. The team entered the Connellan Trophy the biggest event in Surrey for hardball cricket and have made it all the way to the finals after beating Wimbledon Chase in the semi finals by 2 runs. An incredible bowling display saw St Josephs take 6 wickets for 58 runs, meaning a total of 59 was needed off 10 overs for the win.  After a nervy start and the the loss of captain Sailesh Chopra, it didn't look promising for SJP however a superb partnership from Shaam & Cameron steady the ship and got the runs on the board. Cameron has superb innings and had to retire after hitting 20 runs off of 4 overs. Eventually St Joseph's reached the target of 60 runs and progressed to the finals. The finals will be played at Banstead Cricket Club on Tuesday 11th July 10;00 - 4:30. What an incredible achievement for a small 1 form school.

  • Count On Us Primary Challenge competition

Thu 27 Apr 2017 Miss Ready

Year 4/5 take part in the Count on Us Primary Challenge!

On Tuesday, three children from St Joseph’s took part in the Count On Us Primary Challenge. This is a maths tournament involving over 100 schools across London. Sambavi (4C), Kevin and Dagem (5R) represented our school and put in a very strong showing working as a team to complete against 20 other schools in South West London.

Here is their report on the day:

In the maths tournament the first round was Tangrams which is a puzzle of 7 pieces which you put together to make shapes. The second round was Pentominoes which are similar to Tangrams. For the third round we had to make the number 24 using cards with four different numbers. For this round we switched tables and faced other schools! The final round was codebreaking where we had to identify the names of London bridges and reveal the coded message. Out of all the schools, we were the first team to crack the code!

We worked really well as a team and loved the experience!

  • Year 5 Boys Fball Team take part in Fulham FC Festival

Fri 24 Mar 2017 Mr Ford
Our Year 5 Boys football team had an amazing morning on Frday 24th March at Fulham FC's training ground. They got the chance to visit the grounds the 1st team train on and play football inside the brand new state of the art indoor dome. The festival itself was focused on playing matches and having fun as oppose to winning medals and trophies, this gave our team great encouragement to play football the right way. As a team they improved throughout the festival and managed to finish in 4th place overall. A big well done to Isaac who managed to hit the crossbar during the crossbar challenge and he came away with a medal for himself. The boys also got the chance to meet Billy the badger (Fulham's mascot) and we enjoyed a photo with him. This was a great experience for the team who where often playing against whole year 6 teams and done very well throughout.

  • Gymnastics Glory for Team SJP in borough competition

Tue 14 Mar 2017 Mr Ford
On Tuesday 14th March, the year 4 gymnastics squad made St Joseph's history by winning our 1st ever gymnastics medal in a borough competition. The key steps 2 team consisting of Savannah, Zofia, Christopher and Oliver have been working so hard leading up to the competition. Last year the team came a very respectable 5th place and Mr Ford saw the potential back then. After endless amounts of 8 am training the teams hard-work finally paid off as they finished the event with an impressive team score of 113.7 picking up the bronze medal. The event is made up 3 strands of gymnastics floor routine, vault and body management. The teams vaulting was very impressive with every team member scoring over 9.5 for their vault attempts. The competition is huge within the Kingston Borough and has 18 different primary schools taking part, as a 1 form school this achievement is exceptional and as a school we should be very proud of our amazing gymnasts. The key steps 3 team also took part in the borough comp and came 14th place against some very tough opposition. Well done to all and thank you to parents for supporting their children with training and competition.
