Year 1

Hello and Welcome to Year 1 Michael Rosen Class!

Class Teacher: Miss Ferguson

Teaching Assistant: Mrs Metayer

Welcome to our Year 1 class page! We are looking forward to a new and exciting year ahead of learning at St. Josephs!

Our class page will be updated regularly with key information regarding home learning, curriculum topics, upcoming events and of course to share our marvellous work, activities and classroom displays!

Due to coronavirus restrictions, we are still unable to allow parents direct face-to-face contact with teachers. Therefore, the best way to contact the year 1 team is by either contacting the office, to which they will pass any messages on, or emailing via:

We still ask that parents respect the 'cone system' in the playground at the end of the day and to still wear a mask when on the school premises. This is to keep both staff and parents safe. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Take care and stay safe,

Miss Ferguson and Mrs Metayer

Home Learning

The children will be given Home Learning every Friday which will normally consist of a Maths or English task. This could be to produce a poster on our current topic, play a game or complete an activity sheet.  Home learning is due back the following Wednesday unless indicated otherwise. We also send home a list of key words every week that they need to be able to read and spell confidently - please help them with this.

Reading Books
All children will be given reading books and a reading record diary, that they take home and share with an adult. Please support their learning by hearing them read every day for at least 15 minutes and sign their reading record once they have read. The children should bring their books in everyday and they will have their books changed every Friday.

Please ensure your child wears their P.E. kit into school on their P.E. days. Children are encouraged to wear tracksuit bottoms or leggings for outside PE lessons, particularly during the colder months.

Our PE days for this term are now Monday (Indoor) and Friday (Outdoor).
