  • Defence of Cluster League Begins

Fri 13 Oct 2017 Mr Ford
The New cluster league season got underway last Friday and last years champions St Joseph's looked to defend the title against runners up Corpus Christi. This game was the deciding game last year and had a real cup final feel to the game. St Joseph's travelled to Corpus Christi in good spirits having held trials for the boys football team and frequent training sessions. The game started off very tight with both sides having numerous chances to take the lead. However it was St Joseph's who created the best chances of the game despite numerous shots towards the Corpus Christi goal it remained 0-0 at half time. Second half started in similar fashion with both teams playing some nice football, it was a real display of skill and teamwork as both teams enjoyed the space offered on the big grass pitch. Elijah nearly put St Joseph's into the lead but his right footed shot found the side netting, despite lots of effort to score the game looked destined for a 0-0 scoreline. With just seconds to go Corpus Christi gained a corner and sent forward their solid centre back who had been defending brilliantly all game, he rose above everyone else in the box to head home from the corner sending Corpus Christi parents and players into raptures. The goal came so late in the game St Joseph's did not have time to respond and the 3 vital points went to Corpus.
  • Top 10 finish in Borough Tag Rugby for Team SJP

Thu 12 Oct 2017 Mr Ford
On Thursday 12th October, St Joseph's year 5 & 6 tag rugby team took part in the Kingston tag rugby competition. The competition is a huge event with 24 schools taking part, Team SJP where put into a tough group consisting of St Matthews, Oli & Burlington. The first game was against Burlington and SJP got off to a great start winning the game 3-1 thanks to tries from Isaac & Cameron. The 2nd game was not so straight forward and St Matthews defence was very strong with lots of quick fire tagging, eventually St Matthews broke away and scored 2 quick tries. With 2 games played 1 won & 1 lost it was down to the final game against Oli, which we had to win to progress to the next round. Thankfully we held on to win 3-2 thanks to a great last ditch tag from Isaac and double tries from Dagem. Team SJP finished runners up in the group which meant we went through to the plate round unfortunately we lost both plate matches against very tough opposition in Latchmere & Christchurch NM. We eventually finished 10th place overall a great achievement for such a small school against 24 other schools in the borough.
