The new year got off to a sizzling start in the boys y5 & 6 cluster league. Team SJP welcomed Christchurch New Malden to St Joseph's and the game did not disappoint. Throughout the whole match it was end to end with both teams playing some fantastic football. There was lots of goals and lots of action as both teams conceded and then scored, this pattern continued all the way up to 6-6.
Eventually Christchurch where able to score the winner with a low hit shot that found its way past the SJP goalie and into the bottom corner.
The game was played in fantastic spirit and both teams where allowed to express themselves and be creative. Team SJP now turn their attentions to face Burlington at Home in the cluster league.
Some of the children in year six have been working hard to put together the first edition of the school newspaper for this academic year. Copies have been distributed to each class so make sure to catch up on some of the headlines from this term! Thanks to the Autumn news team and we look forward to another edition of the newspaper next term.

Christmas around the World
On the 14th of December 2017 we organised a food tasting event ‘Christmas around the World’ as part of the International School Award project. The food provided was from many countries including India, Poland, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Sri Lanka, Australia, the Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Turkey and England.
The children had a lot of fun and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
On Thursday 7th December our children performed in-front of their parents demonstrating all the skills they have learnt so far in their Piano lessons. They were excellent and should be very proud of themselves. Please click on the link below to watch the videos of their performance - amazing.

St Joseph's sportshall athletics team competed in the Kingston borough qualifier on Wednesday 29th at Chessington Community College. The team which consisted of 22 children had been practicisng since September for this event. They had been working extremely hard on different field events, ranging from triple jump to Javelin. They also put in lots of practice on changing the baton over safely and quickly during relay races. It seemed the hard work and desire to do the best they can paid off, as Team SJP managed to come 1st in their qualifying event beating 6 other schools along the way. The event was very competitive with lots of races being won by the smallest of margins, every raced counted and the teamwork displayed by St Joseph children was amazing. After a busy afternoon of over 20 different events the scores where in. Everybody came together to hear the results. As the results where read out it was clear St Joseph's had done very well. It was only a matter of either 1st or 2nd. The difference between 1st and 2nd couldn't have been any closer and fortunately for us we managed to pip Lovelace by 2 points the equivalent to one position in a race. Well done to all the team and the hard work now begins for the borough finals after Christmas.
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary has been named Kingston Active School of the year.
The school was chosen at an awards ceremony in the Guildhall last week for “showing exceptional effort in promoting healthy, active lifestyles” and was praised for “focusing on different aspects of health, including emotional, mental, physical and nutritional”.
The school has lots of initiatives encouraging physical activity and healthy lifestyles, from the weekly Wednesday Wake Up session that attracts many children each week, to the termly KS2 fun runs around the Fairfield.
The award was presented by world champion runner and Olympic competitor Mark Richardson.
Six sports leaders, pupils who are ambassadors for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle at the school, were there to collect the prize, along with governors and head teacher Sarah Keefe.
Mr Ford, the PE coordinator at St Joseph's, said: “It is a remarkable achievement for our school and is evidence of the incredible journey we have been on to create an active healthy environment at our school and in the local community.”
Sports leader Josh O'Shea said: “It was great to receive a special award for all the hard work we do at being active.”
