Most Active School in Kingston!

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary has been named Kingston Active School of the year.

The school was chosen at an awards ceremony in the Guildhall last week for “showing exceptional effort in promoting healthy, active lifestyles” and was praised for “focusing on different aspects of health, including emotional, mental, physical and nutritional”.

The school has lots of initiatives encouraging physical activity and healthy lifestyles, from the weekly Wednesday Wake Up session that attracts many children each week, to the termly KS2 fun runs around the Fairfield.

The award was presented by world champion runner and Olympic competitor Mark Richardson.

Six sports leaders, pupils who are ambassadors for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle at the school, were there to collect the prize, along with governors and head teacher Sarah Keefe.

Mr Ford, the PE coordinator at St Joseph's, said: “It is a remarkable achievement for our school and is evidence of the incredible journey we have been on to create an active healthy environment at our school and in the local community.”

Sports leader Josh O'Shea said: “It was great to receive a special award for all the hard work we do at being active.”
