British Values

British Values

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary school we take seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in Modern Britain.

Our Catholic Education is rooted in the Gospel Values of:

  • Respect for Life
  • Love
  • Solidarity
  • Truth
  • Justice

We aim to harmonise faith and culture, build a better society, and pursue the Common Good.

We ensure that fundamental British values (democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs) are introduced, discussed, and lived through our Catholic values based curriculum which is the underpins our ethos throughout the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts.

Our RE, SMSC, and PSHE lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding.  Children embrace and live these concepts within St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, and demonstrate a good understanding of the application of these values in their own lives.

At St Joseph’s, we aim to ensure that the children have exposure to wide experiences beyond their local community during which these values are shown (e.g. sporting events, residential trips, outdoor centres, visiting speakers). This provides the children with an excellent platform for embracing difference.
