Hello and welcome to Michael Rosen Year 1 class.

Class teacher: Miss Watson      Teaching assistant: Miss Goddard

For more details  on our areas of study please see the medium term plan attached below.

Home learning

The children will be given Home Learning every Friday which will normally consist of a Maths or English task.  This could be to produce a poster on our current topic, play a game or complete an activity sheet.  Home learning is due back the following Tuesday unless indicated otherwise. We have also sent home a list of key words that they need to be able to read and spell confidently - please help them with this.

Reading Books
All children have a reading book and reading record diary, that they take home and share with an adult. Please support their learning by hearing them read every day.

PE

Please ensure your child has their named PE kit in school ALL WEEK. Children are encouraged to bring in tracksuit bottoms or leggings for outside PE lessons, particularly during the colder months. Our PE days for this term are TBC

Parent Helpers

If you are able to spare an hour or two to come into class to play maths games, listen to readers or even share a favourite story it would be very much appreciated. Please see myself if you are available, it does not need to be a weekly commitment.

Our topic in Autumn 2 term was The Gunpowder Plot. On Tuesday 5th December a Time Lord came to visit Years 1 and 2. She took us back 400 years and we learnt all about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot. We learnt all about King James I and how he wanted everyone to believe the same things as him. We also learnt about how unhappy lots of people were and the plot that Guy Fawkes and his friends carried out.

The Gunpowder Plot Workshop

The Gunpowder Plot Workshop 1 We all pledged to be the Time Lord's apprentices.
The Gunpowder Plot Workshop 2 We pretended to walk like King James I.
The Gunpowder Plot Workshop 3 We dressed up like some famous characters.
The Gunpowder Plot Workshop 4 Half of us were Catholic and Half were Protestant.

Look what we have been learning.

We've been on a bear hunt!!!

We have been learning about the book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. We went on a bear hunt around the playground. We also acted out the story and built a bear cave.

Littlehampton Trip

On 11th July Year 1 and 2 went on a trip to Littlehampton, to support our topic work on 'The Seaside'. We took a coach down to the coast and had a wonderful time together. We saw beach huts, a lighthouse, shops selling colourful buckets and spades, and lots of ice-creams! After lunch we spent some time on the beach making sandcastles and paddling in the sea.
